August 2026 - Daniel Villegas

Daniel is a bilingual spoken word poet from Colombia and Warwick, New York. His work moves fluidly between Spanish and English. Writing from the heart on social change, love, and living free, he has performed across the country since 2008, carrying a message of hope in a voice unmistakably his own.

 

Daniel is also a workshop facilitator and mentor who uses poetry to empower young writers and build community wherever he goes.

July 2026 - Genie Abrams

Genie Abrams is the Poet Laureate of Newburgh. A former newspaper reporter and copy editor, she is the author of three novels — the Louey Levy trilogy — and the poetry chapbook Pretty Nearly All Natural. Genie shares poetry throughout Newburgh in traditional and unexpected places, from the Newburgh Free Library to hand-lettered poems on stop signs and utility poles, and she leads the Hudson River Poets in their monthly gatherings at the Newburgh Free Library.
