Genie Abrams
Newburgh Poet Laureate
Genie Abrams is the current Poet Laureate of Newburgh. Her latest publication, Pretty Nearly All Natural, is a poetry chapbook published by Finishing Line Press. Her poems have appeared in The Sow's Ear Poetry Review and Chronogram Magazine.
Genie is the author of three novels — Louey Levy's Greatest Catch, Louey Levy's Perfect Pitch, and Louey Levy's Heading Home. She has also enjoyed a full writing career as a former newspaper reporter and copy editor.
She shares poetry throughout Newburgh in traditional and unexpected places — reading regularly at the Newburgh Public Library and The Parlour on Front Street, with hanging poems found on stop signs, utility poles, cemetery fences, and in the bathrooms of bars and restaurants.
